This is a call for papers for the next PIPSA conference to be held at the
University of the South Pacific, in Suva, Fiji November 24-26.

The theme, Na politiki ni kua: New trends in Pacific politics, focuses on
some of the current and emerging trends in the political processes,
culture, institutions, thinking and values in the Pacific. It broadly
encompasses a variety of issues, some of which are:

• Changing patterns of regional political institutions and relations
• State-civil relations
• Nationalism
• Conflict
• Conflict resolution
• Politics of peace-building
• Terrorism
• Regional and national security
• Development issues
• Regional intervention
• Political parties
• Governance
• Tradition and politics
• Leadership
• Human rights
• Justice
• Reform
• Gender and politics
• Political thought and perceptions
• Electoral systems and processes
• Regional/international crime
• Politics of natural resources

Participants will include academics from various academic disciplines,
policy makers, political analysts, practitioners, media, diplomatic
service and members of the public interested in Pacific politics.

Abstract:

A 200 word abstract is due before June 30 2005. It should be sent to

Registration
• Academics: Full time employed members - AUD $200.00;
Non-members- AUD$300.00
• Students, pensioners, part-time employed - AUD $50.00
• Pacific Islands participants - AUD $50.00

These will cover morning tea, afternoon tea, lunch/dinner other conference
logistics.

A discount of $40.00 will apply for payment made prior to October 1 2004.


Members are encouraged pay earlier in order to assist PIPSA with expenses
relating to the conference.


Venue
The main venues would be the University of the South Pacific Senate Room
and the School of Social and Economic Development (SSED) lecture rooms.

PIPSA was established in Hawaii in 1987 at a meeting of Pacific Islands
scholars “who recognized the need to stimulate and coordinate research and
other academic activities to develop our knowledge and understanding of
the region”.
